Do Not Call list

I have to say… I am a fan of the Do Not Call List. I have been involved in the Telemarketing industry for many years and I think it’s a good thing!

I know, I know… it has added a lot of work for us. But think of it this way. Now, whenever we call someone, in effect they have said it’s okay. How? Because if it wasn’t okay, they would have registered on the Do Not Call List… Right?

This is a funny industry isn’t it? There is so much controversy over privacy issues and to be honest…. these days I just don’t get it. With the introduction of privacy laws and the do not call register, consumers can stop telemarketing calls if they want to. Most countries now do have a National Do Not Call Registry where people can put their name to say No to Telemarketing calls.

I think of it kind of like putting a “No Junk Mail” sign on your letter box. Personally, I would never put one on my mail box… I would miss out on all of the great offers from fabulous local businesses that I wouldn’t have heard of otherwise. But I have no issue with those who do put a sign on their letter box.

And I think of Telemarketing in the same light. Businesses that Telemarket often do it as a cost effective way of reaching their target audience.

Those open to receiving telemarketing calls can take advantage of or at least hear about these types of offers.

So to me, smart consumers are open to telemarketing. Maybe they have a private number and maybe they have boundaries, like not answering the phone during dinner, but otherwise I really don’t get the the fuss.
