I come across a lot of people who like the idea of doing Telemarketing from home.
In today’s busy world I can understand why it might seem like an attractive prospect to do this type of work from home so that it can be fit around family commitments.
But does it work? Is it really a good idea? And who do you do the Telemarketing work for?
The answer here really lies with you. If you are very disciplined then it can work. But remember that it is harder to fit this type of work around children than some other at home employment options.
If you are in the middle of a call to a client and you have a crying child for instance, it is hard to sound professional with your client. On top of that you are unable to stop the call to soothe your bub. So give this option good consideration.
As an employer, I personally would not hire a Telemarketer to work from home. I believe that it is just too hard to keep yourself motivated, disciplined and on track when you work on your own as a Telemarketer.
Having said that, many small businesses do advertise telemarketing from home positions.

For many small business owners who work from home in differing capacities telemarketing from home is a great addition to what they do. It is an opportunity to expand your business from your living room. Far better to be pro-active and incorporate Telemarketing into your day to actively find clients, than to sit around hping they will find you.
If you do decide to get a job Telemarketing from home, here are some tips to make it work for you:
- Make yourself accountable. Set a target outcome for each shift. For instance if you were booking appointment, you may set a daily target of 10 appointments booked.
- Have good time management skills – set aside a certain amount of time per day. Do your calls in approximately 50 minute sittings and then stretch your legs for 5 minutes before resuming.
- Be disciplined. Stick to your set time each day.
- Make sure there are no distractions. To do a good job telemarketing you must be listening to your customer, you must be present. So make sure your’e surroundings are distraction free.
- Keep yourself positive and motivated. As you are working without a team you will need to motivate yourself. Give yourself a treat for working well or for great results. Stay positive by keeping your body language positive. Smile a lot, sit upright, shoulders back and be comfortable.
