So by now you may be wondering… Why do I need so many skills? I agree it is a somewhat long list.
The reason is simple, because over the phone we are at a slight disadvantage. As we can’t see our client and they can’t see us, our ability to communicate clearly and get a client engaged is less than it would be in a face to face meeting environment.
You may notice that the majority of the skills listed above revolve around your voice and your ability to listen well. These are the only 2 senses you can use in a telemarketing environment – the same can be said for your client. This means that you need to be exceptional at using your voice, your listening skills and your intelligence if you want to be a good telemarketer.
And let’s face it, there is no point being a telemarketer if you are not a good one! If you work for yourself then you won’t get the desired results. If you work in a call center, well let’s just say you probably won’t work there for long if you aren’t able to get results.
