What is Telemarketing?

So, what is Telemarketing? It is many things to many people in many professions….and to confuse the issue even more, it has different names in different countries and in different circles.

So let me try to keep it simple. Telemarketing is making an outbound call to either an existing client or making calls to find potential clients.

Of course a Telemarketer may not actually be selling anything, they could be conducting market research or making a customer follow up call after a sale. The key really is the outbound call. When we are a business making an outbound call, the broad term for this is Telemarketing.

When some people think of Telemarketing, they think of Cold Calling.

This is certainly one type of calling that a Telemarketer does. There is also Appointment Setting, and Lead Generation,

as well as Prospecting, Telesales and Warm Calling.
